Gypsying After 40: A Guide to Adventure and Self-Discovery
Published in Paperback by John Muir Pubns (September, 1987)
Authors: Robert Wilson Harris and Toni Katz Drew
Average review score:

A Thoroughly Delightful Read In Every Way
A great book about a 40-ish couple who decided against grinding the corporate life out for another 20 years, instead choosing to sell everything off, buy a used camper van in England, and travel the back roads of Europe and the Mid-East, as perpetual tourists or gypsies. That first winter was spent on a farm in Greece, whose front yard had the only grape-stamping vat for miles around, where vineyard neighbors came to stamp their grapes into wine, paying for the use of it with crates of vegetables and many liters of new wine. These and other great adventures are the fabric of learning to live in a new culture and making what others spend in two weeks last for an entire year. At another point they buy a used boat, fix it up and travel the rivers and canals of France. They also give many useful pointers about where and where not to camp, where to park in cities with the least hassles, etc. Frankly, I love this book; I've read it over 1/2 dozen times or so, and it's great fun each time I do. In fact, as soon as I finish this review, I think I'll go read it again.

Some stood on battle fields, some in court rooms, some in mission fields. All made a difference in the world that we know today. Its Just Great!!!
It's really a great book. I was really into reading only Nancy Drew mysteries, but seeing the cover, i decieded to buy it. It really got me hooked on nancy Drew "Files". Nanacy goes for a magic show along with George and Ned, but the show ends early due to fire. Sabotage is clear...and Nancy investigates, while Ned & george also get hurt in the Park ride. Adriana Polidori, the owner of the park, inheirited it from her uncle, who Myseriously died...so you can understand thatit somehow fits into the mystery. Adriana is Carson's client and also a date. Ned gets hurt in the process, nancy and ned get into danger. But the wrap up is great. If your still thinking go and get this book. It's absolutely out of the world!!

If you like mystery books ar even mysteries then this is the book for you. You should buy it right now! I myself love to read Nancy Drew books, every time I finish one I have troubles trying to find out which one I should read next. This is one of the best mystery books I have read in a long time (and believe me I read a lot of mystery books). This is a great book to try and fiqure out "who done it?", if you know what I mean. There is a lot of action scenes where you will be to scared to put it down. So, please take me advise and buy this book and read it. I promise you it will be one of your favorite books that you will ever read.

James Henry Hammond and the Old South: A Design for Mastery
Published in Hardcover by Louisiana State University Press (May, 2000)
Author: Drew Gilpin Faust
Average review score:

A good read about a not nice guy
Hammond is not a nice guy. He married for money, was not a great father, and campagined for elected office at time when no one else did and against the 'party' candidate to boot. Most interesting of all was his commitment to the Confederate cause but resistance to the call for material and manpower to help the cause. In the end, he could not believe it when his slaves were jubilant about the prospect of freedom. Through Hammond's eyes we see the south changed forever by the Civil War, not only due to the lost of their slaves but also by the unsouthern actions the Confederate government had to take and how they affected the southern way of life. Hammond is not a nice guy but this very readable book provides an excellent insight to the antebellum southern mind.
